Vilnius city clinical hospital was established in 1958 and currently is one of four main hospitals in Lithuanian capital city. Located in eastern part of the town, hospital provides a wide range of services. The activity of the Hospital encompasses practical and scientific medicine, education of students and residents, continuing professional training of medical specialists.
Vilnius city clinical hospital has a staff of 1281 employees, including 266 doctors. At the hospital of 835 beds about 32000 patients undergo treatment and some 15000 surgeries are performed yearly. At the obstetric department up to 3500 childbirths are taken every year. Hospital has famous history and has played important role in the development of Lithuanian medicine. Since establishment hospital was main Vilnius University hospital, educated a lot of famous doctors, scientists, professors, and was main research base. Although its role nowadays is not as fundamental as it was before, hospital is still actively enrolled in the medical trials, researches and educational processes.
